So, seeing as our couch has been caving in for the past.. oh.. 2 years, it was time to upgrade. Unfortunately, this upgrade came with pillows that – while they didn’t quite burn your corneas – were definitely not my taste. Sewing to the rescue!
(If you look closely you will notice that the pillows actually sparkle – not kidding)

3 yards of beautiful ikea fabric and an hour later, and behold – zipperless pillow shams!

Blog, let me introduce you to my favorite pants. They are comfortable, soft, worn in, and… oh yeah… strewn with holes. My love for these trousers have kept them in my drawer for over a year, hoping that one day I would wake up and find that they had repaired themselves.

In an effort to help recycle the pre-used, as well as incorporate a manageable level of sewing into my daily workload, I have made the pledge for 4 months! Oh yes, faithful readers. Prepare yourself for 4 months of refashioning and tutorials.

Over the holiday I finally accepted a very important fact about myself:
I simply cannot have 2 jobs.
This sucks, and I wish it were different, but the fact of the matter is that my day job is extremely taxing. There is simply not enough left in me at the end of a day of teaching to come home and update an etsy shop, and so, as much as it pains me to say it I have decided that Sprouting Oxygen will be in production mode from June – August, and in special order mode from September – May.
The store will still sell previously made items all year long, and the blog will function as a crafting and creative blog all year long. Furthermore, if you would like a custom item, that, too, can be arranged all year long.
Thank you, loyal readers and customers, for understanding. I look forward to opening shop in a few glorious months!

This year christmas has been hard on everyone’s wallet, and I am not exception. Because of this, and also because we missed our small window to get a tree and really appreciate it, we had to be a little creative.

While Martha Stewart and I may not see eye to eye when it comes to window treatments, her recipe for salt roasted pears in caramel sauce was incredible. If you can get paste the enormous waste of salt (or save it for the sidewalks?) then you will be amazed at how delicious and beautiful this simple dessert was.

Sean had a wave of inspiration on Sunday and we whipped up these amazingly simple puff pastries for a pot luck dinner with friends.
Ingredients:
puff pastry sheets (1 box makes about 14 pastries)
chocolate chips
mini-marshmallows
caramel sauce (we made ours from butter and sugar and creme, but its also sold in stores)
walnuts
1 tsp melted butter
(Full recipe behind cut)

The leaves are starting to change here in beautiful Baltimore, and to celebrate I made this dress on Sunday. 2 hours, 2 yards of jersey, and a new twin stretch needle later…
