I’ve been experimenting with knits in my machine lately, in a very novice manner. Through trial and error, and some helpful tutorials, I’ve come to the realization that while the zig-zag stitch is really the only way to give some stretch for your seams, it blows as a hemming stitch. I say this because 1. it looks ugly and unprofessional and 2. it always stretches out my hems and makes them wavy.
Until I can fulfill my dream of owning a serger, I’ve had to find another way to hem knits : the twin needle. Here is a pretty great tutorial by craft stylish that really helped me on the way to understanding the complexity (not really) of a twin needle.
